Blood Testing for Long Term Medication Administration
Several of our patients require long term medication for conditions such as Diabetes, Arthritis, Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism, and Seizures to mention a few. In some cases, the blood work is to recheck therapeutic blood levels to make sure the dose remains correct as the pet ages or its weight changes.
In other cases, the tests are used to monitor secondary effects of those medications on the procduction of red blood cells in the bone marrow, liver function, and kidney function. Secondary problems in these areas can develop and early detection can prevent severe problems.
Check with the staff on when such blood work is recommended for your pet.
